You Did It
Twelve lessons. Safety rules, airplane types, simulators, batteries, transmitters, airspace, weather, clubs, maintenance — you've worked through all of it. That puts you in a genuinely different position than the overwhelming majority of people who walk into this hobby cold. You know what to buy, why you're buying it, what the rules are, and what to expect when you get to the field for the first time.
We're excited for you. Seriously. The first time you get that airplane in the air and bring it back down in one piece, you're going to feel something that's hard to describe. We've all been there and none of us has forgotten it. Go get that feeling.
Your Pre-Launch Checklist
If you haven't already completed these, take care of them before your first field session:
- Register your airplane with the FAA — $5, five minutes
- Complete the free TRUST exam
- Join the AMA — ~$89/year, includes liability insurance
- Find a local club and introduce yourself
- Put in real simulator time before your first flight — Lesson 5 has our picks
